About Forest Bathing

Forest Bathing, translated from the Japanese term, Shinrin-Yoku, is a slow, sensory-based walk in the woods, focusing on the sights, sounds, smells, textures, and tastes of nature.

Forest Bathing is neither a naturalist walk nor a hike, and it doesn't involve bathing!  It's about soaking in the atmosphere of the forest and enjoying the health benefits of spending relaxed time in nature. In fact, Forest Bathing has been proven to boost immune strength, reduce stress, regulate blood pressure, and improve cognitive functioning and mood.  Immersing ourselves in the forest also allows us to connect with the sentient nature of the woods and the beings that live there.

What to Expect:

On your walk, your guide will offer a series of guided invitations to assist you in finding your own authentic way of interacting with the land. These invitations will help you slow down, but also awaken your senses, creativity, and perhaps your inner child in exploring the world around you.  There will also be an opportunity to share with others what you're noticing through these invitations.  There’s no right or wrong way to do Forest Bathing. Just come and be yourself.

Because everyone belongs in nature, these walks are safe and welcoming for people of all abilities, backgrounds, and experiences. They're held in locations with primarily flat terrain, but if you’re concerned about whether a particular walk will be accessible, simply indicate that on the interest form and we'll be happy to help answer your questions.  You'll also receive information prior to your walk about how to dress and what to bring with you.

"Forest Bathing can be an occasional event, but it is when we make it a regular practice that we realize its full benefits. "
